Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have further whet their fans’ appetites for the upcoming release of their new album A Celebration Of Endings – due out on August 14th – by dropping a new single from the record, titled Weird Leisure. It’s a typical Biffy track, with rapid tempo changes, and a dizzying array of guitars and drums tunnelled out by frontman Simon Neil’s trademark voice.
It feels comparable to the band’s Only Revolutions period output, a radio-friendly – once the profanity has been edited out – slice of alternative rock. Lyrically Weird Leisure tells a pretty dark tale though, seemingly of the descent of a loved one at the hands of addiction. It does, however, have a hopeful ending as Neil sings: “You picked up all the pieces / And started your life again / You’re my number one / I have only hope in my heart.”
To celebrate the release of A Celebration Of Endings – Biffy Clyro’s ninth studio album – the band are playing a behind closed doors gig at an iconic but unnamed Glasgow venue that will be live-streamed on YouTube on August 15th. You can buy tickets for the show through Biffy Clyro’s official website.
The live-streamed gig comes after the band were forced to cancel a series of tour dates across the UK, Europe and Australia as a result of the Coronoavirus pandemic.
Writing on their official Facebook page, the band said: “Unfortunately, we are postponing our UK/Eire, Europe and Australia tour dates due to COVID 19. We were hoping that we were going to be able to announce replacement shows, which is why we have waited so long to postpone them, but unfortunately with the current situation that has not been possible. We’ll have news for you and be out to see you as soon as we can. We love and miss you all, thanks for bearing with us - we’ll be back as soon as possible.”
