Dutch singer-songwriter Romy Dya is perhaps best known on UK shores for providing vocals for the 2019 Martin Garrix and David Guetta track So Far Away. In her homeland though, Dya has carved out a niche for penning tracks for a host of Dutch artists including The Voice of Holland winner of 2016 Maan, Sharon Doorson and Roxeanne Hazes. She’s also worked with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Busta Rhymes.

She released her first solo single Smile On My Face in October 2018, and followed it up with Call Me BAE and Typical, both released last year. Now Dya is back with her latest offering, a new single called Thank You that seeks to build on the upward momentum generated from her work to date.

As with those earlier songs, Thank You is a smart and soulful R&B pop track that perfectly frames her wonderful vocals. There’s a very contemporary and minimal feel to the track, and it’s production – handled by Dya herself – is stunningly slick. Lyrically the track is remarkably strong too. There is a real gravitas to Dya’s words as she sings: “So, I wanna thank you for breaking me / Now because of you I can see clearly / All these circumstances were testing me / I had to fall hard, to get up and see, aye / When you hit rockbottom / Know the only way is up / Some enjoyed the show / But now all of their mouths are shut / So, thank you for breaking me / God taught me to bless all my enemies, yeah”.

Writing on her official Facebook page about the release, Dya said: “Thank You is about being thankful for all the trials and tribulations I have been through and because of that I’ve found my true identity and started to truly love myself. Instead of seeing myself as a victim of circumstances I started to heal myself through music. The world around me changed rapidly in a good way. I know it will reach a lot of people who need to hear this message. This was part of my healing process and I hope it will heal you too.”
