Throughout 2020, as the nation contended with lockdown, Northern Irish singer-songwriter JC Stewart was busy releasing a flurry of storming singles including I Need You To Hate Me, When The Light Hits The Room, and the pulsating Too Many Nights with 220 Kid. All these tracks added to the hype surrounding Stewart, who really started to turn heads with his 2019 ballad Bones.

Break My Heart is his latest offering, and it’s been written in collaboration with Stewart’s friend, the One Direction star, Niall Horan. From it’s edgy intro it moves into it’s softly spoken breakdown that sees Stewart sing: “If you’re gonna break my heart then do it right / Don’t you leave me hanging on like the last time”, as the track explodes into a big, bold chorus. It’s the sort of slick, polished pop track that Stewart is already specialising in, and which made Horan such a star.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page to coincide with the release of Break My Heart, Stewart said: “I know I always say this but this really could be my proudest work to date and the videos that are coming with it are just stupidly good. Nothing to do with me either. Charlie and Jackson and the teams did an absolute number on these ones. I have no idea what this year is going to look like but thank you as always for being here, for listening and sharing, for caring. It means the world to me. For real.”

In a separate Facebook post, Stewart shared his experience of recording the video for the track: “Genuinely one of my favourite days of 2020. Drove road a field in an 1950's Ford Cortina, got to sing in the same house where they shot Atonement and tried my first battered mars bar (10/10 would recommend to a friend).”

Stewart, who has been writing songs since he was a teenager, also worked with Tom Odell on his debut EP which was released the end of last year. With the likes of Odell and Horan already backing Stewart, he seems destined for big things. Watch the official video for Break My Heart here. Find out more on JC Stewart’s official website
