British singer-songwriter and former BBC Sound of 2016 nominee Billie Marten has revealed details of her upcoming third studio album, Flora Fauna, and dropped the release’s lead single, Garden Of Eden, this week.

Marten, whose real name is Isabella Sophie Tweddle, started releasing music when she was aged just fifteen, and shared her debut album Writing Of Blues And Yellows in 2016 aged just seventeen. Its follow up, Feeding Seahorses By Hand, arrived in 2019 to positive reviews, and included the singles Mice, Blue Sea, Red Sea, Betsy, and Cartoon People.

Garden Of Eden is a warm and welcoming track, with Marten’s usual acoustic touch and a rich, folksy feel that explodes into life with a tempo change that signals the arrival of a soaring chorus. The track is accompanied by a montage-style video created by Lydia Poole and the single’s artwork has been designed by Katie Silvester.

Writing on her official Facebook page about the release, Marten said: “She’s out. I can’t begin to express to you how much I’ve wanted this to be in the world, I am so f**king excited and ready. We started this thing a while back and it’s all stringing together quite beautifully now. A total fresh and untouched slate. Thank you ever so much for your patience and kindness throughout, and in the meantime, here is Garden Of Eden.

“It’s about the competition to grow and constantly be better, about how we all desperately need to be fed and watered and given space to thrive, and yet we’re so subscribed to this idea of pushing and evolving that we’re not actually doing the living part. So my message to you is thank you and I hope you can slow down and FEEL again.”

Flora Fauna is scheduled for release in the UK on May 21 through Fiction Records.
