Hailing from a small village in Somerset, Finn Askew is an eclectic and experimental young songwriter and performer. Having discovered his love for music as a youngster when he stumbled upon his parent’s CD collection, which included some giants such as Nirvana and The Smiths, Askew started writing and recording his own songs, fusing influences that span pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, and indie.

Last year marked something of a breakthrough for Askew, who despite still being a teenager, dropped a flurry of standout singles including Same Old Love, Peach, and the stunning Roses, a debut single that has racked up millions of online plays. His reputation is on the rise in his homeland, but he’s also been winning over fans in Korea where he has established himself on several Korean digital music charts after Taeyong from notorious KPOP group NCT shared Roses with his fans.

The new, six-track Peaches EP opens with Roses, still perhaps Askew’s signature track, it’s simple melody juxtaposed with his intense and varied vocal delivery. The EP’s title track is a heavier affair with electric guitar and neat electro elements, while new single Egotism is built around a big bassline and a hugely catchy bridge and chorus.

On Same Old Love, Askew opens up, singing: “Never knew so much about you / Maybe that's the reason I was blind and stayed / Never felt so bad without you, no, no / Then we fell apart when the first of June came”. Nicotine features some effects-laden vocals and a sparser, almost industrial backing, while the EP’s closing track Buttercup is a dreamy, airy number that shows how wide-ranging Askew’s songwriting skills extend. In a press release announcing the EP, Askew discussed the process behind the making of the record. “I wanted to create something that showed how creative I really am,” he says. “I’m a kid from a small countryside town where there is no music scene at all but I’ve had so many musical influences, which has created my mad diverse music taste.”
