When you think of charity, you think positive, right? The feeling of hope and grace are undoubtedly positive, and the group Midlife did a wonderful job capturing pure joy in its most wholesome form with their newest charity-single Rude Girl #doingitforlaura.
The song is a blend of light-punk and ska, with a very poppy and straight cadence. A song with such a style obviously wouldn’t be complete without some form of brass section, and so not only is it consisting of your traditional rock instruments, but a punchy sax section really wraps the bow on the package that is Rude Girl. The combination of the entirety of the instrumentation just screams fun as mentioned before, you can picture the musicians smiling profusely as they jam through the song. The melodies are very old-school, with that hip-swinging feel and classic rock chorus harmony that complement the nature of the tune. There’s even a point where the vocalist calls out a sax solo, to which the sax player delivers as instructed. There are many ways to compliment this song, but nothing comes quite as close as describing this track as pure and simple joy. No matter what your opinions are of this genre, whether you care for it or not, it’s a song that is undeniably a great time to listen through. To think otherwise would be inhumane, to be frank.
This single is especially important because it was wholly composed, recorded, and released for one very brave university student, Laura, who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer at 18. While it’s truly heartbreaking, the world has come together to help her with the costly medical bills, and Rude Girl is a staple of how beautiful humanity can be to help one another. Listen to the song not just for the musicality, but also for Laura.
