Review: It'll be Okay Davy

Davy has always found ways to push the envelope when it comes to musical innovations. He has always refused to stick to one genre, or rather to let himself be boxed in to labels. With each new track, it seems to get harder and harder to describe his music other than to simply say “It’s Davy”. It’ll be Okay, his newest single, is by far the most ambitious of his recent releases.

For this tune, Davy seemed to have taken his inspiration from harsher music, such as EDM, metal, and rock, all pretty far from the stuff the artist has put out in the past. The bass guitar riff introducing the song is a dead giveaway of that tone, and the normally electronic instruments are replaced with a more acoustic sounding drum kit, filled with layers of guitar and bass orchestration. There’s an almost Rob Zombie-esque vibe to the song, but the moment you think you understand the theme, the composition switches on you with tempo changes, time-signature trickeries and a drastic shift in energy.

The song is also accompanied by the luscious vocals of Lorelei, adding a sense of harmony to the track which was definitely missing up until her introduction. Her feature on the song brings the composition full circle, and really feels like a fully-fledged production straight from Davy’s massively complex creative mind.

Overall, the sudden shift to a more rock-centric sound, all mixed in with the eccentric ideas Davy never shies from adding to his music gave birth to It’ll be Okay, which I can confidently say is my personal favorite Davy track. Its scope is immense, and the artist’s constant venture into the unknown is not only admirable, but really damned good to hear. His vocals sound more confident than ever, and the contrast between the two singers make It’ll be Okay a smashing song that will be played on loop for many. Davy’s ever-growing catalog is expanding at such a frequent pace, fans shouldn’t have to wait too long for whatever the singer comes up with next. Regardless, it won’t be what you’re expecting; It’ll be Okay is proof of that.
