Right from the start of this track, you can sense you’re in for a chillin, cruisy ride. The intro features beautiful & soothing atmospheric guitars blended with distant vocal licks. If you close your eyes, you can almost feel the warmth and radiance of the sun on your face.

Adam Levine’s vocal melody swings like a pendulum in the verse, ascending nicely through the pre-chorus, perfectly setting up the hook of the song “Beautiful Mistakes”.  A great opening phrase for the chorus which doubles as the main hook of the song.

There’s something about doing the things you shouldn’t, a certain melancholia that teases and haunts you throughout your day, and has you shakin’ your head but smiling at the same time. This is the central idea of the song. The lyrics paint a beautiful picture of regret blended with sublime memories.

Musically, there’s not a lot going on. Essentially the same chord progression is used for the song’s entirety and I think this was done intentionally, as the music holds space, shining the light on the hook and dynamics of the song.

Speaking of dynamics, Megan Thee Stallion adds a tonne here with her section of the song. Just like a bridge, Megan’s rap comes in at the perfect time. I love how Megan effortlessly switches from rap to singing vocals, brilliantly showing off her versatility as an artist. Megan’s section of the song is done so well, that I couldn’t imagine another artist doing a better job. Kudos to the sound production team for setting the scene perfectly to highlight the great dynamics.

One listen to beautiful mistakes and you’ll be humming “ nah nah nah, in my head, makin beautiful mistakes” over and over again. The melody and lyrics stick like melted ice cream to your hand on a hot summer’s day.

A perfect song to sing along to in your car and lift your cruise to another level.

Beautiful mistakes, is the third single from “Jordi”, Maroon 5’s seventh studio album. Song written by Adam Levine, Megan Thee Stallion, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Joe Kirkland, also written and produced by Andrew Goldstein and Blackbear.
