Maisie Peters has already enjoyed a truly meteoric rise. After gaining popularity through YouTube and dropping the EPs Dressed Too Nice for a Jacket (2018) and It's Your Bed Babe, It's Your Funeral (2019) through Atlantic Records, the 21-year-old singer songwriter penned a record deal with none other than Ed Sheeran earlier this year, and the ginger-haired pop behemoth is all set to release Peters’ debut album You Signed Up For This later this summer through his Gingerbread Records label.

Psycho is the new single taken from that record, and one that Peters collaborated with Sheeran and Steve Mac on to write. It is, as you might expect, a suitably uptempo and frighteningly catchy pop song, with the sort of tune and chorus you just can’t get out of your head.

Writing on her official Facebook page about the track, Peters said: “PSYCHO OUT NOW SONG OF THE SUMMER BABY”, and it does have the feel of a song that will be everywhere over the coming months. Explaining the creative process behind the song, Peters also wrote: “From all the sad that led me to the beginning little notes app idea of it on my phone to writing it with Steve and Ed this song was a fever dream and a journey, and now releasing it really feels the beginning of something special.

“I want this song to feel like UR song. like when it comes on i want u all to screech at ur friends and be like OMG THIS IS OUR SONG and then go dance and feel like u run the world because u do in fact run the world. psycho is for all of us and is the song that we deserve and i’m so happy that i wrote it and get to be the girl that sings that psycho song idk it feels right. GO LISTEN AND LET FERAL GIRL SUMMER COMMENCE”.

Peters, who also counts Taylor Swift and Lewis Capaldi among her celebrity fans, is playing a series of festivals over the summer, with performances scheduled at Latitude, Isle of Wight, and Boardmasters festival, among others.
