Review: I See It Coming Maro & Nasaya

Three years after her last album with a whole new sound, MARO is back stronger than ever, alongside musician NASAYA, with I SEE IT COMING, a poppier song, all the while maintaining the elegance she’s exercised consistently in her career.

When I think of MARO, my mind immediately thinks of her heart-wrenching, guitar-heavy, ballads (i.e. It’s OK), as well as her jazz-infused alt pop bangers (i.e. All Over Again). Fans of MARO will definitely find this to be extremely different, that much is inevitable. This is far more upbeat, though it’s still slow. I wouldn’t call this track a dance track per se, but it’s ridiculously groovy. The chorus is infectiously catchy, filled with layered harmonies that complement MARO’s voice so beautifully.

The track opens with a pitched-up sample accompanied by a piano, giving this EDM vibe right off the bat. MARO comes in shortly after the light groove kicks in, sounding as smooth as ever. There’s something quite inexplicable with her voice that’s just so ear-gripping. It goes perfectly with this style, which makes this song different, as mentioned before, but just as good as her previous work. It truly can’t be compared, but I see this as an evolution to her sound. She’s never stayed grounded, as proven with her numerous EPs and albums.

MARO and NASAYA make a deadly combination. With this track being part of a collaborative EP between the two, to say I’m excited is an understatement. MARO finds ways to slide in people’s hearts like no others, with the rawness of her delivery, which is so beautifully displayed in this track. I SEE IT COMING is an exciting prologue to a new chapter in MARO’s career that can only lead to greatness, leaving behind legendary music for all of us to enjoy.
