Review: I’ll Never Not Love You – Michael Bublé

The modern king of traditional pop, the man who’s almost single-handedly kept vocal jazz alive in the last fifteen years, has released a new single, titled ‘I’ll Never Not Love You’, to promote his upcoming album, ‘Higher’ (due this year), and it’s the oh-so-familiar chocolaty-smooth music Michael Bublé is so well known for, with a modern twist.
Typically, when people think of Bublé, they think of either his Christmas tunes or his Sinatra-like jazz. He has had his share of pop singles that has risen him to his grand status in which he resides in today, but still ‘I’ll Never Not Love You’ was a surprise. The jazz roots are solely in some of the instrumentation and hints of extended harmony; they’re very present but in far subtler ways. The production is booming and loud, the beat is grooving, and the melodies are insanely catchy. The four-on-the-floor is a welcome addition to Michael’s discography, not to say that he’s devoid of them. This is a true pop tune, with auto-tune and all, and could’ve even been sung by someone else in terms of how different it sounds for the singer. Still, there are certain traits that are quite inexplicably ‘Michael Bublé’, that makes this composition and recording truly his. The chorus is one of the strongest by far; both with the chord progression and the beautiful melody. There’s something quite ethereal about the execution despite the very funky nature of the track. It’s a signature of Michael Bublé that he’s raised even higher with ‘I’ll Never Not Love You’, which is this very uplifting feeling that is devoid in so much of music today. Such a tune is always a nice, refreshing take on music.
‘I’ll Never Not Love You’ is a wonderful start to the sounds of ‘Higher’, his upcoming album. The preview the artist released previously made me optimistic, but ‘I’ll Never Not Love You’ is an affirmation of the quality that is to be expected with this record. It’s going to be a very welcome return for the singer, and in the meantime fans and casual listeners alike will surely enjoy every second of his newest song.
