Review: Weezer's SZNZ: Spring

March 20 this year marks the first official day of Spring. So, how appropriate that Weezer would choose to drop their latest album SZNZ: Spring on the same day. Their seventh studio album is the first in a four-album project and has just landed, with the ever-whimsical quartet informing us the "SZNZ" is pronounced "Seasons." Get it? Good.

These US alternative rockers are one of the few bands that don't seem to have been slowed down by the recent global pandemic, consistently making and releasing new music. They are a band that truly embodies a genuine love for their craft. These guys have FUN making music. And that is evident in the incredible offerings they keep putting out, with this latest being no exception.

The first track "Opening Night" is a solid introduction to this album, which somewhat indescribably "feels like spring." From the moment you start listening to it, you feel light, airy, fresh, all the sensations we have come to associate with the season.

From there we get to enjoy "Angels on Vacation," which feels like a delightful throw back to the band's 1994 debut Blue Album, before storming into the perfectly poppy first single "A Little Bit of Love."

SZNZ: Spring truly feels like it captures the best of Weezer. It is the perfect blend of pop rock, with a little of their alternative era sound for good measure. Lyrically, it is simple, but the expertly blended vocal harmonies make this one a real treat to the ears.

Weezer fans, keep an eye out for part two of this project, SZNZ: Summer, which is due to land, aptly, in summer of this year.
