Sometimes, you just need a soft, groovy pop track to lift your spirits. Florrie is there just for that, all thanks to her newest single ‘What If I’m Wrong’.

‘What if I’m Wrong’ starts with a gentle, yet slightly-distorted synth melody that perfectly embodies the vibe of this song: it’s soft and careful, relaxing, yet has a somewhat-sharp edge. Simply following the rhythm, there’s a quite confident and strong groove that drives the song forward. Various hats and shakers give direction to loud thumps and snappy snares, layered with finger snaps for comfort. The instrumentation that gives life to the rhythm section, however, sounds quite calming in isolation. Every synth pad floats hazily over the surface, and even the more arpeggiated or plucked instruments are layered in thick reverb that makes it blend wonderfully with the watery synth pads that give the song its breath. Even the close and intimate vocals from Florrie are wandering in her lower registers for the verses. Though the choruses show a bit more energy, with very subtle harmonies only really used to give a stronger foundation to the catchy melody of the section, still emanate a really relaxed feel. Despite this, still, some of the sounds used and the compositional tricks all pull from EDM influences. I find it especially interesting that Florrie never propels it quite as high as other EDM songs, which makes ‘What If I’m Wrong’ stand quite uniquely on its own.

‘What If I’m Wrong’ is the kind of energy you’d want to have a fun wine-fuelled night with your friends, all hanging around on the couch. It can surely make you dance, though the energy sits just below not to make this uninviting for more casual, or low-energy, moods. It’s a song that’ll get your head bobbing regardless.
