The original version of US pop starlet Meghan Trainor’s “Bad for Me” may still be bobbing around in our heads and encouraging us to stay strong in the face of toxicity since it landed in June, but now she’s gifted us with a special treat. An acoustic version of this heart-wrenching, wonderful song.

Teddy Swims joins her again for guest vocals, and their voices sound even more soulful and divine together in this version. The lyrics feel deeper with this stripped down take on the track and one cannot help but feel if this was how Trainor intended the song to sound all along. The sadness and strength combine like a force of emotive glory without feeling overshadowed by any of the music.

The track is leading us toward her fifth studio album, “Takin’ It Back,” which is due to land in October. This will be the first LP we have had from Trainor since “A Very Trainor Christmas'' back in 2020.

And it has been a joy to see the 28-year-old singer-songwriter grow stronger and more in command of her voice since she first wowed us with her first single “All About That Bass” way back in 2014. You can hear the supreme control she has over her light, lyrical, alto voice. She has always been one of those artists with a sound that is as unique as it is soulful, which makes every new track such a thrill.

We never know if she will be making us dance, fall in love, or breaking our hearts, but she can do all this and more with seemingly effortless flow and genuine feel to her music. No doubt “Takin’ It Back” will be stunning, and fans should be looking forward eagerly to October!
