Demob Happy has been around now for a number of years. Forming first in 2008, and they have been developing their sound and stage presence ever since. Originally from Newcastle, they have relocated down to Brighton to help their opportunities, which is certainly paying dividends as their fan base continues to grow.

I am a newcomer to Demob Happy, so unpicking their lyric lines is a nice way to be introduced to this band. I think it’s fair to say that there are lots of repeated phrases and layers to Voodoo Science, with the phrase ‘doing things in the name of love’. So from a lyric point of view, the narrative is not as strong as some other tracks around at the moment.

However, musically I was blown away. I accept that for many, Demob Happy may not tick the music genre of choice box, but from a musicianship and energy level perspective they are absolutely worth listening to. I was transported back to the mid 90s UK indie music scene, with power guitar riffs that create a strong driver for the song. This is accompanied by a hard hit drum and some room filling synths that are fitted into the song perfectly. I came away from this song wanting more, I absolutely loved it and will be looking out for more Demob Happy releases.
