Ellie Goulding has been a feature of the UK music scene since 2009, with a fantastic collection of releases and accolades to put her in the pop royalty bracket of the UK music scene. Her latest release is a little overdue, but her fans will love the texture and composition of her new tracks, and Like a Saviour has the key ingredients to become a favourite for many of her fans.

Sometimes lyrics of songs can be hard to decipher exactly what the writer is trying to put across, but one really good aspect about Like a Saviour is that the meaning is clear from the outset. Ellie Goulding has created a song that tells a story that is clear to follow. The first part describes the part before a relationship starts, where there may be darkness and loneliness that surrounds someone and this can often be too much to bear. Then that moment when someone special comes into our lives they lead us into the light of happiness ‘Like a Saviour’. The whole journey is carefully crafted with great descriptions that ultimately make it easy for the listener to follow.

From the first few bars, there is a hint to a Oriental sound, but whilst in the background of the song, it is lost a little when the full arrangement kicks in. Ellie Goulding has created an interesting mix of electro pop and dance, particularly with the feel the drum and bass creates. Throughout the song the vocal is high in the mix, which helps the clarity of the lyrics come through. There are backing vocals and a melody that carries the lyrics beautifully. I think it’s a footapper that will be welcomed by music fans to Ellie Goulding both old and new.
