US rockers Paramore are back with their first studio album in almost six years. But trust us when we say, “This is Why” has been well and truly worth the wait. They may have taken an extended break during COVID lockdowns but have emerged stronger than ever with an album that grabs your attention from the very first track and does not let go.

Angsty, yet beautiful, the lyrics delivered by frontwoman Hayley Williams are exactly what this generation needs. And we are not speaking of Gen Y, or any such other division, we are speaking of the generation that lived through a global pandemic:

“This is why / I don’t leave the house / You say the coast is clear / But you won’t catch me out…”

Paranoia is the order of the day on “This is Why,” with music that makes you feel as though you are spiraling out of control and losing your mind. But that sense of freewheeling with no idea who is steering is an enjoyable ride. You want to keep up with where Paramore will take you next, despite the fear you are feeling. Somehow you know they will take good care of you along the journey, and you will come out better on the other side.

Paramore’s current line-up of founding members, Williams, and Zac Farro, along with Taylor York, seem to have done something almost impossible. They have successfully recaptured the old feeling of classic 2005 Paramore, using contemporary themes, and yet providing an almost futuristic tone.

If you are a fan of Paramore or even rock in general, do yourself a favour and check this one out. “This is Why” is available from the band’s website or on all streaming platforms.
