Review: Lola Lennox New Song - Dreamer

When I first listened to the track, I was not aware of the ancestry of Lola Lennox, which, in her defense, is always helpful, because when your mother is Annie Lennox, you may often find yourself living in that shadow. Lola Lennox has been forging her own career in music over the last few years. Yes, her first appearances and recordings are with her mother, but as she has matured, there is a definite sound that makes Lola Lennox unique.

I can distinctly remember when I was younger, painting pictures of what life could be like. It’s a notion that Lola Lennox does in her latest release, Dreamer. Interestingly, she talks about what happened after, how the dreams didn’t quite manifest, but instead, she seems to find herself at a crossroad in life. Does she go back to the beginning and dream again? I think so many people will be able to relate to this track, recalling our childhood dreams and potentially reflecting at the point in life we may now be in and how a rethink on that may be the best option.

If you listen hard enough to this song, you’ll find a whole host of instruments. There are smooth sounds with the piano, guitar, and drums that provide a real balance to the final mix. Lola Lennox has two different vocal appearances in this track, the easier verse or the very fulceto chorus, that has a real punch and sticks with you. I really liked the song and the arrangement and went back quite a few times to hear some of the key concepts play out. The one thing I would change is the pronunciation of the word ‘mountain,’ but I might be being very picky!
