Review: Blondes New Song - The Basement

The Blondes are a five piece band that are in their early stages of the music business. With a united passion for music, some obvious talent for songwriting and musicianship, they have a bright future ahead of them.

Lyrically, The Basement takes a bit of time to get your head around. It provides us little clues as to the main concept of the track, with short verses and a chorus that is a little removed from what was said in the verse. However, with lines like being on your own, I sense that the element of confusion and sense of loss may refer to the feeling of lovelessness at the point in time when a relationship fails.

As soon as the song starts you can hear that this is going to be musically well crafted. The blend of guitars and bass is really clear, but at times a little high in the mix that makes you try to over listen to hear the vocals. The melody is beautifully harmonic, with a really memorable chorus that helps the song glide effortlessly through. I really like the power that comes in during the chorus and then the switch back to the stripped back verses. The Basement is a song that you can listen to again and again and it doesn’t become too repetitive because of the delightful melodies.
