The Chainsmokers are an American electronic DJ duo. Formed in 2012, they have gathered a huge following in the last 11 years and are now billed as one of the most successful DJ artists in the world. The two members, Alexander "Alex" Pall and Andrew "Drew" Taggart, have developed a unique sound and partnership that will continue to influence music lovers for years to come.

With very few words to help unlock the meaning of the song, it may be open to many interpretations. However, with one repeated line, it becomes clear that ‘Up & Down’ refers to being in a crowd, listening to music, and the sensation of jumping up and down somehow makes it all better. So, in that sense, Up & Down acts as therapy, and therefore, there doesn’t need to be more detail in the lyrics!

With simplicity in words, ‘Up & Down’ brings across a sense of quite high energy, but at the same time, it isn’t the most upbeat tune you will ever hear. But the unique thing about this song is the way in which the vocals are delivered. If you listen, there is a catchy repetition of the lyrics that gives us a real sense of emotion and helps drive the energy throughout this very short new release. With the variety of music being released at present, this does create a unique freshness to the very poppy sounds we are hearing in new releases.
