Lucky Daye has been one of my favorite names to tell everybody I know about, so I am always delighted to hear a new release. Here are some sentiments I agree with following the release of his latest song "That’s You."

Coming from YouTube comments:

“Lucky Daye is really one of those artists that does not have a bad song.”

“Lucky Daye is PROOF that Neo Soul is NOT dead!! Keep singing Honey, keep singing!!!”

“This man is overwhelmingly underrated! Deserves so much more… I’m excited to see him skyrocket to the top anyway.”

I find it hard to not agree with those comments.

The song features playful bells, laid-back but decisive rhythms, wah-wah guitars, and Lucky Daye’s crystal-clear vocals cutting through the mix. This track was co-produced by Bruno Mars and Dernst (D’mile) Emile II. In my opinion, the song has Bruno Mars' fingerprints all over it. If you are familiar with and enjoy the work of Silk Sonic, you will probably find space to groove in this song too. While you are at it, listen to every single song that Lucky Daye has released and every single track that Dernst “D’mile” Emilie II has produced.

Judging from the sound of this song, it is safe to say that Bruno Mars is at least trying to channel a little bit of the same purpose that he has for his Silk Sonic project together with Andersson Paak. That is: The desire to pay homage to the music they grew up listening to, drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, The Isley Brothers, and others from that era. They aim to create a nostalgic and authentic sound reminiscent of the golden age of R&B and soul. That is just beautiful! I have frequently come across famous artists and creators urging their audience to dig deeper than just one level. That is to say, if you enjoy the music of Silk Sonic, Andersson Paak, Lucky Daye, or Bruno Mars, then go one level deeper. Try to find out what music your “heroes hero” listens to. Otherwise, if you don’t have time for this, just kick back and enjoy the very well-refined R&B banger that is Lucky Daye’s latest song "That’s You."
