Review: Cate - Rocket Science

The artist Cate just released a pop-country, two-track single with the tracks 'Rocket Science' and 'You Don’t Love Me.' I think a lot of people are craving a fix of that pre-808 and trap drum Taylor Swift sound, and there’s a good contender right here. Both tracks are mixed, recorded, and performed excellently for this genre. None of the sounds are really demanding a lot of attention, and all come together to create a slightly groovy but mostly beautiful soundscape.

The first song 'Rocket Science' has slide guitars, a little more of a country vibe, and tells the story of a relationship where the people are battling with common relationship issues. The second song also talks about relationships, and, you know what, I’ll actually make it your personal mission as the listener to go figure out exactly the details of what they are talking about, if you are interested.

The songs were written by Cate Canning and Henrik Michelsen, then also produced by Henrik Michelsen. As far as who plays what instrument, I am not sure. But the production work on a track like this mostly comes from recording actual instruments and then trying to mix those instruments. I don’t think that they used a lot of samples or synths. I don’t know if Henrik wrote lyrics and melody too, but he doesn’t get writing credits, so I assume not. He has also produced and written tracks for artists like BTS, Maisie Peters, PHIA, Gryffin, Dylan, Mae Muller, and more. There is also no doubt that Cate brings really immense musical prowess to this track and all her other tracks. I just love giving credit to all the involved.
