Dua Lipa - Training Season (review)

Dua Lipa is back with another banging hit titled 'Training Season.' Dua Lipa is continuing to push for her title for Queen of Pop, and I would say if she isn’t there already, she is getting closer every day. Following the release of her hit 'Houdini,' she continues in the same fashion with extremely catchy love-themed songs with a little bit of a twist to them. The track 'Houdini' was perfectly simple, like so simple and catchy that you can’t even imagine how much work went into making it that way. The theme of 'Training Season' is that of Dua Lipa searching for the right partner. She is stating her needs and requirements and seems sort of fed up with the whole process of trying to find someone who can truly appreciate her. The featured music video goes hand in hand with this, and I highly recommend you to watch it. It basically shows a lot of men trying to get Dua’s attention, but it seems all of them fail.

Along with this release and music video, there is also a pretty iconic Grammy performance from a few days ago where Dua Lipa performs the tracks 'Houdini' and 'Training Season.' This is a rare moment because often I will hear about a Grammy performance and how great it was, only to find some very low-quality video or no video at all. However, this performance with Dua Lipa is out on her own YouTube channel and is in full HD. That is great!

We are eagerly awaiting Dua Lipa’s third album. This latest release sort of has some ABBA disco-driven hit feeling to it. The melodic choice is also in line with like 'middle-eastern' scales in some parts, giving the song that little extra thing. The collaborators on this track are the same as on her previous track 'Houdini,' and boy are they great. I would say she has found a winning recipe. The production was done by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Danny L., as well as Dua herself, of course. Co-writers include Tobias Jesso Jr. (having worked with Adele, Harry Styles, and Miley Cyrus), and Caroline Ailin, who has co-written several other Dua Lipa hits. I think Dua Lipa is incredibly skilled musically, and though it is hard to tell exactly how big a part she plays in this process, I think she does a lot.

Now again, this song is following the theme of Dua trying to find the special someone. The music video is set in a classic scenario where you would find yourself going through the vetting process with potential partners, the café. The inspiration for this track, Dua said, came after having gone on a series of bad dates. Actually, the sentiment is pretty funny and positive. Even though she is saying that she has gone on a lot of bad dates, she only sees it as sort of a 'training season,' where even if you go on bad dates, you’re still going to learn from them. As long as you are adamant about what you want, there might be some necessity to having some bad dates, so you don’t just go for the very first just because. Anyway, not to get too preachy or off-topic, I think this track is a funny/self-empowering pop banger with some musical elements alluding to great acts like ABBA. Just like how 'Houdini' was a banger loved by almost everybody, I think if you listen to 'Training Season,' you will find yourself enjoying it. Please watch the music videos too!
