The Aces are back with their latest track, “The Magic,” and there’s a lot to appreciate here. The standout for me is the undeniable funk they maintain throughout the song. It strikes the perfect balance between cool, upbeat, and catchy. Songs like this can easily veer into cheesy territory, but The Aces have kept it incredibly tasteful.
Another highlight is the vocalist's choice of melody. The vocals and lyrics are placed just right, flowing effortlessly with the music. Lastly, the production and mixing are top-notch, with credit going to both The Aces and Christian Medice. The track is polished without losing its vibrant energy.
Now, let’s talk about the band itself. In an age where bands are becoming less common, it’s worth noting the four talented members of The Aces:
- Cristal Ramirez – lead vocals and guitar
- Katie Henderson – guitar and vocals
- McKenna Petty – bass and vocals
- Alisa Ramirez – drums and vocals
The Aces began playing together back in middle school, meeting up after classes to jam. That early start has clearly paid off, as their tight-knit chemistry shines through. Over the years, they’ve drawn inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Earth, Wind & Fire, The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Paramore, and Weezer. If you listen closely, you can hear traces of these influences woven into their music.
Overall, “The Magic” is a groove-heavy track that feels like it’s constantly pushing the listener forward. The melody and lyrics blend seamlessly with the rhythmic foundation, making it a song that works in almost any setting—whether you’re in the car, at a dinner party, or even wearing headphones at your desk job. However, it may not be for everyone, depending on your personal taste. That’s why I encourage you to give it a listen and decide for yourself!
