Tonight with PinkPantheress: Dreamy, Deep, and Decadent

PinkPantheress recently released a new track titled “Tonight,” and I only just got around to listening. So, although I’m a bit late to the ball—here we go.
The song moves fast, diving straight into a hypnotic production. There’s a deep, satisfying sub-bass that completely disappears on my 2012 iPhone earbuds with the old AUX cord, so I had to switch to better headphones. It was the right call—the difference was huge.
The production on this track is just magical, and PinkPantheress’s vocals remain unlike anyone else in pop right now. I think she absolutely excels here. The beat blends elements of house and dub, and even sneaks in some lovely cowbells during the verses. I don’t know what it is about cowbells—why people love them so much—but I can’t deny I have an unexplainable love for them too.
The music video is perfectly in sync with the song’s pace. Both the track and the visuals are dreamlike, sensual, and—just like the video suggests—decadent in their own way. I don’t think I’ve heard PinkPantheress release something this boldly sensual before, but I really enjoyed it.
As unfair as the pressure on her may be, it’s starting to feel almost impossible for PinkPantheress to make a bad song. Her choices in production are consistently interesting and tasteful. Sometimes she produces her own music, and other times she works with collaborators. In an interview with Kaytranada, she said that all she ever wanted to do as an artist was to provide a good top-line—a vocal over an instrumental. That’s it. And honestly, I can’t express how much she’s surpassed that goal. To me, she’s the best thing that’s happened to pop in the last 10 years.
Go give this track a listen. True to form, it’s short—and while you’re at it, you might as well listen to the rest of her discography. It won’t take long.
