Review: Getting Lost in the Rhythms of 1tbsp’s ‘Isso’

1tbsp has just released a new track called “Isso,” and right from the jump, there's so much to love. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so genuinely puzzled—in the best way—by a piece of music. I don’t fully understand what’s happening in this track, and that’s part of what makes it so exciting. Its uniqueness is undeniable, and there are so many fascinating elements to explore—so let’s dive in.
First and most noticeably, “Isso” draws heavy inspiration from Brazil. There's a genre bubbling up called Brazilian Funk—or “Phonk”—that’s gaining serious traction not just in Brazil, but internationally too. I've been listening to a bunch of mixes in this style, and honestly, I still can’t quite pin down its exact sound. Maybe I’m just too new to it. What I do notice is a consistent use of vocal samples, distorted kicks, cowbells, and intricate percussive rhythms.
In “Isso,” 1tbsp taps into that Brazilian energy with unmistakable vocal samples and those signature percussive patterns. But here’s where things get really interesting: he layers them with a driving four-on-the-floor kick and a hi-hat that sits on the backbeat. On top of that, there’s a synth playing classic rave chords, giving the whole track an unexpected twist. It feels both nostalgic and completely fresh—fast-paced, vibrant, and full of movement.
This track definitely won’t be for everyone—but those who connect with it will probably love it. And that’s exactly why you should give it a listen: there's a real chance it’ll click with you in a big way. It feels like it was made for a club setting, but I could also see myself running to it. Either way, it's worth experiencing. Go give “Isso” a spin!
